Results from The Questionnaire!!

Results from the Audience Research Questionnaire

we collected the results from the questionnaire and we came up with all the answers that we needed in order to go ahead with the planning of our main task. the first question we decided to ask was whether the audience was "Male or Female". we decided to ask this question to see which audience would be attracted to to the film more. it was a decision that took more time for us to analyse because we need the opening to attract the same amount of either gender to watch it so that we can get the best results. we need to attract a wide variety of audience and this is what our results showed:

the results of this question showed that the film opening will attract more of a female audience then male. As a result of this, we will be focusing on a female audience and trying to make it as interesting as possible. We will be using a mixed cast of actors, but there will be more male actors so that it will attract the female audience as well as  a male audience. this will result in, hopefully there being a mixed audience viewing our film opening as we wont have to focus on the females as much as males.

The second Question we asked was "How old are you". this question we decided to ask because we wanted to know what our target age group would be for the film opening. by the results of our question it says that 75% of the people we asked where aged 15-17. No-one that completed our questionnaire was aged 27-30. As a result of this, our target age group will be 15-17 year olds as this was the most common result that we achieved because of the people who decided to do the questionnaire. We will do everything we can to have our audience satisfied by all of their individual needs.

The Third Question for the questionnaire is "What sort of genre do your prefer". The options for this question where Zombie, Thriller and Horror. Out of all the responses, nine people choose Thriller, nine people choose horror and ten people choose Zombie. By the majority of respondents choosing that they would prefer to see a zombie film, as a group we have decided to do a zombie movie opening. this opening will probably be watched by a lot more people when completed because it is what they wanted to see. it is also a choice which we had chosen previously as one option because we liked the idea of making a zombie film. when it comes to special effects and that side of things, it will not be brilliant but we will try and make it as realistic looking as possible.

For the fourth question we asked 'What are your expectations of a horror?' Most of the answers we got included 'lots of gore' and 'lots of blood'. These two statements cropped up a lot in this process of the question and was the most popular answer for people to put. if we decide to go down the route of doing a horror then we will have to include a lot of gore. This might be hard to do as we need certain materials and liquids in order to make it look real and authentic. this will be the hardest part of the filming process, but i think our group will be able to do it well. Also one of the answers we got was 'likeable and relatable characters so I fear more for their safety.' this was a good answer for us to analyse as we do want our opening to be realistic and we do want our audience to fear the 'Evil' character because this will stimulate the better reaction. we also want to create believable character so that the audience can see that they are real people and can be very much the same as our audience. we want to make the audience feel confused and so that they will not truly understand what is going on and this will hopefully create a better effect for the opening.

The fifth question was just the same as the previous one, but this  time relating to Thriller . Most of the responses said 'scary', 'thrilling' and 'keep me on the edge of my seat'. If we were doing a more thriller based film opening then we would include all three of these ideas. This will be quite difficult to pull off as we will have to get all of the shots and camera angles correct with no mistakes or the film opening wont have the 'thriller' effect. we will also have to get the dark and scary locations sorted before we start to film as we want to make it the best of our abilities.

For the sixth question we asked was 'What are your expectations of a zombie film?'. we god the majority of people saying they want a zombie movie to be filled of funny moments, gore, chase scenes and a lot more. One respondent also said they would like the film to be realistic and not badly made. we are going to be taking all the comments from all respondents into consideration and analyzing each one to see how they can be achieved. Obviously we are media film students, so the opening might not be as realistic as real, big production company films may be, but we are going to be trying really hard to fully use all the equipment we have to make the film opening as real and authentic as we can.

The seventh question was 'do you think having music in the background helps set the mood of the opening, why?' As you can see from the pie chart 25 out of 28 people answered yes and 3 out of 28 answered no. The peoples written responses who said 'yes' were mostly 'it builds up tension' 'sets the mood' and 'creates an atmosphere' all three of these responses will help us to decide what type of music we will be using in our film opening. If we don't get the right music then we could lose the interest of our target audience. One of the people who said no said 'silence is better, with a voice over' we could use this instead of putting music to set the scene because it would be different, but if we did use this we might lose the audiences interest.

We asked for the eighth question 'In an opening scene, do you prefer?' the answers we gave were 'Getting straight to the point', 'Dragging it out' and 'Setting up an enigma (a mystery that is solved at the end of the film'. From the pie chart you can see 20 out of 28 people thought to set up an enigma. You can also see from the graph that 7 people thought to get straight to the point and 4 people thought to drag it out.

The ninth question we asked was 'If you didn't like the opening of the film but liked the plot, would you still watch the film?' 19 people said yes and 9 people said no. We asked them why and they responded with 'The rest of the film might improve' and 'i would want to know what is going to happen in the rest of the film'. These sort of comments will help us to decide what the plot will be to make sure that if the opening is rubbish then if we made it into a film then the rest of the film will be good. But hopefully our opening will be good so people watch it.

For the last question we asked 'How long would you expect the opening credits to last?'. 13 people said 1-2 minutes and another 13 people said 3-4 minutes. No one picked 5-6 minutes but 2 people picked 7+ minutes. From the results off the graph we will be making our film opening from 1-4 minutes as these were the two most popular choices.
We will be using all information that we have had supplied to us via the questionnaires and think and come up with the opening of our film based around this information. The three genres which are Horror, Zombie & Thriller are what we are focusing the film opening around but will take the information we have been given as a basis for our Opening. All of this information is very useful to us and this will make our main task video a lot better than our Preliminary.

The results that have been collected via the questionnaire relate to "Zombieland" rather than the other two films that we deconstructed. this is mostly because we got a more positive result from the Zombie Genre on the questionnaire. we are going to focus the film opening around this type of thing but make it scary rather than  a comedy because that is what Zombieland did.

we all found that some of the responses were not taking our questionnaire seriously an some of them put silly and unusable answers. This was mainly of the written answer questions where we asked stuff like "what are your Expectations of a Horror?".  One of our respondents replied with a silly response which was to Graphic to write on here about! We dont think that this person took the questionnaire very seriously and their answer was not usable and therefore invalid.  A few other of the results that we received were not usable either, but the majority of the answers were sensible and could be used in the overall analysis.

Creating a Questionnaire

I have worked on a website called 'surveymonkey' with Fay and Reece to create an Audience Research Questionnaire for our Main task. we all worked as a team to come up with the questions for the questionnaire in order to ask an audience, to help us with the investigation into our main task.

Unfortunately just before creating our questionnaire we lost one of our members of the group. she had a large portion of time off due to medical reasons. she did not want to drag the rest of the group down, so decided to work alone in order for us to continue with our task. Reece, Fay and myself are very sad that Yasmin left the group and we are wishing her all the luck in the world with starting her separate Main task :)

We created it on 'surveymonkey' which is a website where you can create a free account and create surveys or questionnaires for people to answer. We came up with 10 questions which we thought was the right amount for this questionnaire and for our audience to respond to.

We have a wide range of questions to ask our audience in order to get answers which cover a big scale to help us with this task. after we get the results we can then create graphs and chats to show our results in a visual aspect instead of just writing it as it gets very boring. by using the graphs and charts, it adds a variety to our blogs :)

Preliminary Task Video!!

when we finished the preliminary task, i decided to post the video on my online YouTube Account. The links for these particular Sites are below. The video is a bit of fun and is not to be taken too seriously. . . . . we had a great time making it and any feedback would be appreciated . . . . thankyou!!!! x

Group Genre!!!

We spent a while deciding what genre to do for our Main Task. we discussed genres like Comedy, Romance, Horror, Action and a few others. We decided not to do a Comedy because it would have been hard to act, and make it serious. it would have also have been hard to make as we didn't have any clear ideas n how to go about it. Action we decided to go against because it would have been too expensive to produce because of all the explosions and special effects. it would have been very hard to produce this, and get away with it looking authentic, especially with no budget.

Overall We decided To Pick a THRILLER . . . . This was a unanimous decision as we felt we could get away with making a scary film and it looking real. We are all very exited about producing this and it being a success.

AS Media Main Task!!!

For our Main task we have decided to stay in the same group that we did for our Preliminary task as it went really well and we enjoyed working together. The Members of the Group are Reece Taylor, Fay Sawyn, Yasmin Wadsworth and Myself. Here are the links to their Bloggs . . . .

Yasmin Wadsworth - not yet confirmed

Our Brief for our main task is: "the tittles and opening of a new fiction film, to last a maximum of two minutes."

First Post

this is my very first post on Blogger. . .  .we are at lesson 5&6 and have now created this account to record my progress through my Media Coursework. So far i have done my summer work, which was to research representation in a media aspect. In lesson 1&2, i showed my presentation on Stereotypes to the rest of my group and also saw theirs in return. In lesson 3&4 we sat and learned about the audience in media and how everything has a target audience. Thats it so Far :) Link at bottom takes you to Google!!! (its just a test Link) :)
